Welcome to this weeks Irregular Update. Feedback on the Heritage wine madness continues, and it is worth reading the feedback/comments. As with all article, your comments are also welcome.

Last weeks article titled "From a Masters to a PhD in Marketing Incomprehensibility" did generate some feedback but not as much as I had expected. Possibly many readers of the Irregular Update may prefer to look to the smaller and medium sized producers, and are not as interested in the conglomerates portfolios. In my own case, at one time my cellar was heavily stocked with Southcorp, Hardys and their associated brands, but as time has progressed, these companies represent a smaller and smaller percentage of my cellar. The story and the comments can be found here.

This weeks article looks at the issue of  The Two Contentious T’s – Technology Versus Tradition in winemaking. Since man first started making wine thousands of years ago, there has been a continual drive to improve quality. Today that drive is insatiable and thanks to technology, the ability to turn out drinkable wine has never been better. But, there are winemakers and wine lovers all over the world that will tell you the old fashioned ways are best. Forget about reverse osmosis and machine picking, they love hand picked and basket presses. So who is right and who is wrong. This article examines both sides of the coin.

A few new Snippets have been posted over the past week. Firstly, Chris Killeen (Stanton and Killeen) passed away last week. On the home page Snippets Section there is a link that will provide more details about this talented winemaker, from Rutherglen, who will be missed. On a much lighter note, there is a fantastic spoof that ties up Oz wine and our local politicians.

The cast has finally come off my leg and foot, so I am starting to get mobile and limp around. It won't be long before I start to plan our next SA trip; hopefully it will be early September.

No new tasting notes this week, but there are a few that should be good, waiting on the tasting table, so next week there will be some to look forward to reading.
