Welcome to this weeks Irregular Update. Firstly my thanks to those that took the time and trouble to make suggestions for stories. There were a few good ones submitted and as usual, my mate Murray In NZ will be singled out for special attention. He has the unique ability to make simple suggestions, which are great ideas, but they could keep me fully occupied for weeks at a time in research. However, as they are good ideas, I will see what I can do on my next trip to SA, which is now booked for early September.  Both The Pie King and Red Bigot will be tagging alone, so it will be a fun time.

The last article, The Changing Wine World solicited a huge response from readers. In fact it broke a record - there were exactly zero comments about the article. Makes me wonder if everyone is in agreement, if they don't have an opinion or just don't care. Hopefully this weeks efforts will solicit a better response, but that wouldn't be difficult.

This weeks article will be near and dear to many wine lovers hearts. Alcohol levels in wine have been on the rise for over a decade and some wines are reaching the level of fortified wines, and without needing the addition of Brandy spirit to get there. Slowly but surely, there is a small but growing level of consumer concern that is already turning into a backlash against these high octane wines, and as the movement grows, it will get more attention. Find out why this is happening and where we are heading with High Octane Juice.

A couple of new Snippet have been posted. The first covers two different approaches being tried to Market Wine to Women. The second is a small sample of interesting adverts which show the ways thing used to be!

Some interesting new tasting notes this week, from Kalleske, Zema and Lunar Wines. I got a great deal of enjoyment in tasting/drink most of these wines and some are must buys.

The News section has been about average over the past week. Stories of possible interest include:

  • NT eradicates dangerous wine grape disease

  • 'New Europe' up in arms over EU wine reform plan

  • Deluge leaves French wine harvest at risk of ruin from mildew attack

  • High-Octane Wine Fashion Craze Provokes Dumping, Rebellion

  • Jacob’s Creek and Gallo world's best known wine brands - survey

  • Europe to bottle our winning wine ways

  • Glut reaction

  • Le Pin, Petrus over €1000 per bottle and climbing

Those stories and more can be found here.

This week quote: "No one goes to that restaurant anymore - it's too crowded." - Yogi Berra

Until until next week....  Cheers!

Ric
