Welcome to this weeks Irregular Update.

Last weeks article, High Octane Juice certainly aroused readers passions. Judging by the majority of comments, there are a few red bigots amongst the readers. A few winemakers threw in their two cents worth, and if you haven't already, read the comments as many of them are enlightening.

This weeks article "Simple Question – Difficult Answer" was the most difficult I have ever written. Sometimes writing articles are easy; the words just flow and the articles are finished in no time. Sometimes writing an article can be a struggle and it takes draft after draft, and it still does not seem right. When I had the idea for this story, I thought the question I asked myself was so simple, that knocking out the answer would be a breeze. That was until I started to think about the question and work on the article. It was a complete bastard to write! As a wine lover, you think it would be easy to answer the question “What do I like in a wine?” - until you try and do it.

A new Snippet has been posted. When Heritage Fine Wine went belly up and the liquidators released details of the inventory and the prices paid for it,  I was staggered by the high prices that the invertors had paid for the wine. It did not make sense; either Heritage was really stupid or someone was making big bucks. My guess is the latter and this snippet How to Rip off Mug Investors shows how it may have occurred.

Summerfield Wines were kind enough to send me their new 2005 releases to review. Two of the four entry level wines were particularly good and the Reserves were the quality one has come to expect from this winery; one of my favourite Victorian producers. Check them out in the  tasting notes section.

Next week's edition will contain part one of a two part story that is bound to cause some controversy. Between the two sections, they will cover everything you ever wanted to know about wine blogs, and part two will review and make comment on many of the blogs that are relevant to Australian wine lovers, and those that love Australian wine.

The News section has been about average over the past week. Stories of possible interest include:

  • Wine mother of all reds

  • Yarraman ponders another bite of Evans & Tate - report

  • Pulp friction

  • Investing in wine makes a case for profit

  • Cheviot Bridge backs out of Evans & Tate sale

  • UK: Jacob's Creek pushes sparkling wines on radio

  • Wine industry reassures investors amid oversupply

  • NZ Wine supply fails to keep up

  • Gunns blames Greens for wine boycott

Those stories and more can be found here.

This week quote: "Drink wine, and you will sleep well. Sleep, and you will not sin. Avoid sin, and you will be saved. Ergo, drink wine and be saved" - Medieval German saying

Until until next week....  Cheers!

Ric
