Welcome to this weeks Irregular Update and the lead into the 2007 South Australian Tour Diaries. In September The Pie King, Red Bigot and I spent a week doing what we do best together; tasting (and drinking) lots of good wine and eating far to much good food (whilst I tried to avoid the pies.) Prior to posting Chapter One of the 2007 Tour Diaries next week, this introduction will set the scene by providing the latest vintage comparison information, as well as my overall impressions, and the latest trends. With one exception, all the trends are heading in the right direction. We tried more truly good wines on this trip than any previous tour. For those that think that all reds from South Australia are over-ripe blackberry flavoured oak-shakes, this trip proves that nothing could be further from the truth. Vintage Perspective 2007 and Tour Diary Observations can be found here.
A new Snippet has been added, and in some ways it is related to the final Tour Diary Observation. The debate over the Mollydooker wines (and Parkers ratings) reared it's head again on the Parker/Squires forum. What was most interesting was the number of posters that disagreed not only with Parkers assessment of the Mollydooker wines, but his Australian ratings in general. As usual, it was "closed down" - this time in under twenty four hours. The Mollydooker/Parker Debate aint going away any time soon can be found here.
If you missed last weeks Feature Winery Review, Who or what is David Franz it can be found here. His story is refreshingly honest, devoid of bovine manure, and worth reading.
Some new tasting notes have been posted. Read them here.
Don't forget, if you haven't done so already, please put your free entry into the guessing competition. The Tasting Note entry page has now received over 96,800 hits since TORBWine was launched and it's anyone's guess when the magic 100,000 visits will be reached. So, to celebrate and have a bit of fun, the person who guesses the closest date will win a bottle of very presentable Oz wine from my cellar. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Click here to enter.
The News section has been quiet over the past week. Some of the stories of possible interest include:
Those stories and more can be found here.
This weeks quote. "It is is better for pearls to pass through the lips of swine than good wine to pass through the lips of the indifferent" - Mark Luedtke
Until next week .... Cheers! Ric
