Welcome to this weeks Irregular Update, which features Chapter Five of the Tour Diaries.
This week in Chapter Five of the 2007 South Australian Tour Diaries, we continue our journey through the Barossa. We only visited three wineries this day but the Chapter is still the normal length. It developed into was a top day and we managed to taste our way through over forty wines. The Chapter contains a feature visit to Haan Wines, a big tasting at Kaesler including a number of new labels, and finally a big line-up was tasted at Rolf Binder/Veritas/Magpie Estate. Many of the wines tasted on this day are either not released yet, or have only just been released, so you are getting the good oil here first. Chapter Five can be found here.
Judging by the feedback, last weeks extra story titled TORB and the Dom Perignon Scam, the outlined Nigerian scam is just the tip of the iceberg. If you haven't seen the readers' comments they are worth a quick look. Judging from the emails I received from those in the industry, this Dom scam is just one of many. I don't know how some of them work as they seem pretty convoluted, but they all have two things in common. Firstly, the English is almost always fractured and secondly, you bet that the only winner in these scams are the perpetrators. A quick follow up Snippet More Wine Scams has been added with some of the new wine scams emails that are doing the rounds.
The latest Australian Reviews by the Wine Advocate came on line a few hours ago. For the first time, the Oz wines have not been reviewed by Robert Parker, so it will make fascinating reading. In a few weeks I hope to bring you a complete analysis of Jay Miller's findings and its possible impact on the Oz wine scene. I have seen a list of the wines that scored 96 or more, and they were the usual Barossa and McLaren Vale big names/wines, as well as the highly respected Rutherglen fortified wines.
