Burge Family 2006 Clochmerle Aug 08

Sells for $18 at cellar door and is sealed under screwcap. The wine is a Shiraz Grenache blend and spent six months in oak. The bouquet shows varnished oak/oxidative handling characters but is fruit driven with multiple berry scents, milk chocolate and some cedary notes. It has a soft consistency and an elegant structure; the complexity is well developed and the wine is harmonious thanks to its excellent balance. It's savoury with strawberry/red currant, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, aniseed and dried oregano flavours that finish with good persistence and excellent intensity for its medium-weight. An easy-drinking, food friendly wine it could disappear dangerously quickly over a casual meal. Perfectly suited to pasta with a spicy sauce, drink over the next four plus years.
