Burge Family 2006 Draycott Shiraz Aug 08

Sells for $36 at cellar door and is sealed under cork. The bouquet was broody, initially showing coffee oak and oregano with pepper emerging after 24 hours. A perfectly poised wine the chewy, fine tannins combine with deeply-seated fruit and fresh, crisp acid to form an ultra-tight wine that is just ample-weight, and has a supple consistency. It's savoury and off sweet but there is a touch of blackcurrant sweetness on the uptake, which goes into dark chocolate and dried oregano on the mid-palate, and finishes off-sweet with excellent length and persistence. This wine absolutely demands time and should become seamless. Rated as Excellent with **** for value, it has loads of potential and should be in its peak drinking window between 2012 and 2019.
