Burge Family 2006 Garnacha Aug 08

Sells for $25 at cellar door and is sealed under cork. Rick always tells me that his wines need a good decant, so I took the opportunity of looking at this wine rate 24 hour period. The bouquet was very reticent, even at the end. A beautifully balanced and poised wine with some class and elegance, the fruit is the only thing that is obvious. The unobtrusive, dusty tannins provide a supple consistency, and the solid, seamless, tight structure is further enhanced by the fresh acid finish. The palate is sweet on the uptake with red fruits and progresses into a savoury mid-palate with milk chocolate and black fruits, and then moves into a very persistent finish. An attractive wine that is extremely food friendly, and whilst it's approachable now, it will improve. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value, Grenache at this price point doesn't get any better. Make sure you give it a good decant and drink any time between now and 2016.
