Jeanneret 2006 Rank and File Shiraz Sept 08 sells for $23 at cellar door and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet is fruit driven showing sweet notes on the uptake together with spice/cloves, and as it opened up it revealed earthy mushroom characters together with lots of coffee oak. Unobtrusive, fine, drying tannins combine with distinct fruit to form an ample-weight, solid wine with a supple consistency and agreeable complexity. The palate shows loads of coffee oak together with cloves, stewed raisins, slightly bitter chocolate and green herbs on the finish. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, less oak influence would improve this wine, although many will love the intensity of flavour. Caution would dictate that it was drunk sooner rather than later.
