Mike Press 2007 Shiraz Aug 08 is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet showed sweet, black fruits with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanillin oak. The noticeably dusty tannins provided solid backing for this supple, medium-weight wine with an agreeable complexity. Initially it lacked fruit weight and generosity, but as it opened up it put on weight. With blackberry on the uptake, the mid-palate component showed slight herbal characters together with plum, and finished off to coffee and vanillin oak characters. Possibly too much of the flavour comes from oak. Rated as Agreeable with **** for value, the rating may improve in the short term. It's certainly great value for an everyday quaffer.
